Career Path : LANDSCAPE NOVICE
The novice must know and gain proficiency in performing basic tasks of landscape maintenance services and landscape installation services. No previous experience needed to start. Novice will be reviewed on a quarterly basis and must perform work at the company’s standard procedures, and time standards consistently AND learn 14% or more of the Landscape 1 position per quarter to qualify for a raise. Novice will be expected to be working towards the Landscaper 1 position and must attain all job skills of the Landscaper 1 before attaining that level of job position and pay.
REQUIREMENTS
Legal documentation to verify employment eligibility.
Be able to pass initial and random drug and alcohol testing.
Possess valid Calif. driver’s license and be insurable by company insurance carriers.
Possess willingness to learn new skills, achieve continuous improvement & be frugal of client and company resources.
Treat others (co-workers, clients, bosses, vendors, and the general public) with respect,
English is the primary language and Spanish understanding is a plus.
Wear appropriate work boots, uniform shirts ascribed by company policy.
Familiar with and comply with company manual and policies contained and set forth, including safety guidelines/standards.
Assist unloading work trucks, delivery trucks, on site set up. Keep yard, job sites and staging area clean and organized.
Assist in keeping the yard and job sites tidy & demand safety from others.
Assist in keeping work truck and equipment clean & organized.
Report Broken or missing tools.
Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
Be able to reach over head.
Be able to work in various positions including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.
Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
Be able to lift 50# of weight frequently through out assigned work day.
Be able to bend and stoop repeatedly through out assigned workday to complete assigned job tasks.
Maintain physical fitness level required to perform assigned job tasks.
Reliable transportation to job site/office.
Report to work at the assigned time and assigned location, perform duties as assigned.

JOB SKILLS
Use assigned tools and equipment in proper/safe manner.
Become proficient in filling out accurate time sheets, material used sheets and service slips
Know fueling procedure and identification of 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines.
Able to prepare 2 cycle gas mix.
Become proficient in the use of basic landscape tools: leaf rake, broom, hoe, shovel, spade, picks, mattocks, digging bar, hand rake, wheelbarrow, lawn roller, gding rake, cultivator, water hose, quick coupler key, hand pruners, hedge shears, refuse totes.
Become proficient in the use of a measuring wheel or tape measure and calculate square footage.
Become proficient in the use of basic power equipment used in the landscape: hedge trimmers, line trimmers, 21’ lawn mower, walk behind lawn edger, leaf blower, vacuum(1) , electric demolition hammer(1), rototiller(1), compactor(1).
Become proficient in height adjustment and blade replacement on 21” through 72” Mowers.
Become proficient in changing edger blades and refilling string trimmer string.
Become proficient in servicing water gardens and features.
Learn and perform basic planting skills.
Dig and clear drain/irrigation trenches.
Become proficient in loading and unloading of truck and trailer used in landscape operations.
Perform regular safety inspections on vehicle, trailer and equipment
Become proficient in cleaning, washing, waxing and detailing vehicles & equipment.
Communicate with lead people regarding progress of tasks.
Able to meet company production rates and production standards.
EVALUATION
Novice expected to learn and demonstrate proper use of equipment within 90 days of hire. (1) Except these items, which must be mastered within 6 months or sooner of hire.
Novice expected to meet production rates and quality standards set forth by company as assigned.
Novice expected to produce accurate time sheets & documentation set forth by company
Novice expected to display a good attitude and a high level of regard for company image.
Novice expected to meet all above Novice requirements and job skills prior to working towards the Landscaper 1 position.
REPORTING
This position reports directly to lead person/daily supervisor/ foreman.
